Welcome Daniel!

By Cristian Bonato1st March 20187th March 2018

Daniel White joined us today, to start a PhD on the study of spin-active defects in SiC embedded in photonic and electronic devices. For this, he will build a new setup in our newly-refurbished lab, DB2.14. Good luck, Daniel!

Royal Society “Theo Murphy” meeting on SiC quantum devices

By Cristian Bonato16th February 201816th February 2018

Our proposal to organize a Theo Murphy workshop about quantum devices in SiC has been accepted by the Royal Society! The meeting, organized by Cristian Bonato with Prof Joerg Wrachtrup (University of Stuttgart – Germany) and Dr Sang-Yun Lee (KIST, Seoul – Korea), will bring together quantum technology researchers with materials scientists, device engineers and…

Carnegie Trust Research Incentive Grant.

By Cristian Bonato16th February 2018

We have been awarded a Research Incentive Grant by the Carnegie Trust, to study spins in single near-infrared colour centres in SiC embdedded in photonic structures, to enhance photo-luminescence collection. Looking forward to start!

Congratulations, Artur!

By Cristian Bonato18th January 201818th January 2018

After four years of hard work and a successful viva, Artur Branny is now a Doctor! Both Artur and the external examiner looked very satisfied with his performance, as shown below. Congratulations Artur, and good luck for your future career!

ERC Consolidator starting!

By Cristian Bonato1st January 201816th January 2018

The ERC Consolidator grant “2DQP: Two-dimensional quantum photonics”, awarded to Prof Gerardot, is starting today. The goal will be to engineer the ideal solid-state single quantum emitters of on-demand indistinguishable single photons, based on 2D materials. Congratulations Brian!

Welcome Hossein!

By Cristian Bonato5th December 201710th December 2017

Hossein Dinani is visiting us from the group of Jeronimo Maze, Pontificia Universidad Catolica of Santiago (Chile). Hossein will be staying for a couple of weeks to collaborate on the application of Bayesian estimation to quantum sensing, in cases where single-shot readout is not available. This is relevant, for example, for magnetic field sensing using…

Science Exhibit

By Cristian Bonato30th October 201714th November 2017

We are excited for the opportunity to present our science at the Royal Society Summer Science Exhibit next summer.

Congratulations!

By Cristian Bonato1st October 201714th November 2017

Congrats to Prof. Gerardot, who today begins a 5 year research fellowship from the Royal Society for a Wolfson Merit Award.

New Fabrication Facility

By Cristian Bonato1st October 201714th November 2017

Our EPSRC Strategic Equipment grant to create a “Two-dimensional Photonics Fabrication Facility” at Heriot-Watt commences. We look forward to accepting delivery in late 2017 / early 2018 of the equipment for our new facility. The facility has significant funding to allow free access to new users (academic or industrial) to seed their future their research….
