Kaleidoscope Selection for Dale’s Image!

By Sarah Nutt6th September 2018

Dale’s image from his paper on entangled cluster state generation was selected for the “Kaleidoscope” at Phys. Rev. A : https://journals.aps.org/pra/kaleidoscope/pra/98/2/022318.  Well done Dale!

Welcome Hyeonjun!

By Sarah Nutt5th September 2018

Our new Research Associate, Dr Hyeonjun Baek, has joined us to work on integrated quantum photonic circuits using 2D materials. For this project, he will investigate the interaction between photonic cavities and 2D materials.  Welcome to Heriot-Watt Hyeonjun!!

Welcome Markus!

By Sarah Nutt25th June 20186th September 2018

Dr. Markus Rambach has joined us today from the University of Queensland, Brisbane, Australia. His project will explore light-matter interfaces using semiconductor quantum dots and quantum frequency conversion in order to work towards feasible quantum networks and the hybridization of quantum systems.  Welcome to Heriot-Watt Markus!

New Cryostat Successfully Installed!

By Sarah Nutt21st June 201825th July 2018

Our new cryostat has been successfully installed! Everything went smoothly and we are excited to use the Attodry800 from attocube for experiments in 2D integrated photonics and quantum defects in SiC devices.

Edinburgh Marathon Congratulations!

By Sarah Nutt29th May 20185th June 2018

Huge congratulations to Dr Cristian Bonato, Dr Mauro Brotons-Gisbert and Raphael Picard (PhD student) for completing the Edinburgh half-marathon at the weekend – you’ve put in an amazing effort and all the hard work and training has paid off, well done you 3!!

We welcome a visiting scholar!

By Sarah Nutt14th May 201829th May 2018

Daniel Andres has joined us for 4 months from the University of Valencia to work on experiments involving luminescent properties of 2D materials based in h-BN, WSe2 and InSe as part of his PhD work – Welcome to Heriot-Watt University Dani!

Edinburgh International Science Festival – Atomic Architects

By Sarah Nutt25th April 2018

The QPL team recently took part in Heriot-Watt’s Family Fun Day as part of the Edinburgh International Science Festival with their ‘Atomic Architects’ exhibit.  Visitors (and there were many!) got to have a go at trying to peel off single layers of atoms before viewing their efforts under the microscope.  There was also a large spinning…
